Golden Axe II

Golden Axe 2 is a side-scrolling arcade fighting (or side-scrolling beat'em'up) game released for the Sega Genesis. It is the sequel to the popular arcade game Golden Axe. The three playable charters from the first Golden Axe, (Axe Battler, Tyris Flare, and Gillius Thunderhead), return in Golden Axe 2 to fight the new evil forces lead by Dark Guild. The game features a total of 7 levels: 6 scrolling levels and a final end of game boss battle against dark guild). Between each level, a rating is awarded based on the player's performance on the previous level, and a small exposition of the main story is given.

Upon release, opinion was split over whether the game was superior to its prequel. Many felt it was little more than an easier rehash of the original. Others felt that the game's small changes made it a more enjoyable experience.
